Sports Psychology evening
On Tuesday 14 January, members enjoyed a unique insight into the world of golf psychology. Beth Yeoman, a trainee Sport Psychologist and member of the golf reception team here at Goodwood, delivered a talk to members about the mental aspect of the game. The first half of the session gave members a chance to understand more about sport psychology in their own games. The talk began with Beth posing a familiar situation to the members which demonstrated how apparent sport psychology is in the game of golf today. Following this, the members’ explored their own thoughts during golf and the impact these have on their performance.
The second half of the session focused on the mental element of the professional game of golf. Specifically, Rory McIlroy’s 2011 Masters performance was discussed and an explanation as to why this dramatic decline in performance occurred was shared. Finally, Beth provided members’ with easy top tips on inputting Sport psychology training into their own game.
